What You Will Need
- 1/2 yard of 2 or 4 way stretch fabric
- Matching Thread
- Overlock machine or straight stich on a home sewing machine
- Cover stitch machine or a zig-zag stitch on a regular home sewing machine
- With right sides of fabric together sew the front seam of the shorts (1) with a serger stitch (you can use a straight stitch)
- With right sides of fabric together sew the back seam of the shorts (2) with a serger stitch (you can use a straight stitch)
- Open the seams of front (1) and back (2) and place the right sides of fabric together. Sew both sides of (1) and (2) shorts with ¼” serger stitch (you can use a straight stitch)
- Place the crotch inseams of (1) and (2) together and sew crotch front and back with right sides of fabric together using ¼” seam allowance (you can use a straight stitch)
- Sew both sides of the 4” wide waistband front and back (3) and (4) together with right sides of fabric together using a serger or straight stitch (measurements are listed on sewing pattern)
- Fold the 4” waistband (3) and (4) in half the long way
- Pin the folded waistband seams (3) and (4) to the right side of fabric of (1) & (2) side seams
- Sew the waistband (3) and (4) raw edge to raw edge of the shorts (1) & (2) with the seam on the right side of the fabric. Using a stretch stitch (overlock machine is recommended) Pull on the waistband as you sew. The waistband will be smaller than the upper short
- You can finish the waistband serger stitch by sewing over it with a cover stitch or zigzag stitch for a more finished look (this is an optional step)
- Hem leg holes with a 1/2 inch hem using a stretch stitch
