What You Will Need
- 1/2-yard 3mm sequin 2 Way Stretch Fabric
- 2 ¼ Yard Pre Cut Binding/Pipin
- Matching Thread
- Regular Home Sewing Machine
- Overlock Machine if you have one
- Binding Foot Optional (I never used one)
Pattern Assembly
- Optional Back Gather: Using 1/8” elastic, gently gather the back (booty) for a ruched effect. This step is optional. For a visual guide, see my YouTube tutorial.
- Sew Main Pieces: Join the front (1) and back (2) pieces at the sides and crotch. A serger stitch is recommended for stretch fabrics.
- Cut Waistband Binding (3): Binding measurements available on the the sewing pattern.
Make sure the fabric stretches horizontally around the waist.
- Secure Waistband Front & Back Ends: Attach the ends of the front and back waistband binding and sew a straight stitch 1/2” from each end.
- Attach Waistband to Shorts: Pin the sides of the waistband binding to the shorts (1) & (2) side seams with right sides together.
- Staystitch Waistband: Sew the waistband to the front and back of the shorts, staying close to the edge. Align and pin the center front and back to prevent the fabric from slipping while sewing. Leave the seam allowances open.
- Cut Two Leg Hole Binding (4): Binding measurements available on the the sewing pattern.
- Prepare Leg Hole Binding: Fold the binding in half lengthwise and secure each end with a straight stitch 1/2” from the edge.
- Attach Leg Hole Binding: Staystitch the binding with right sides together and attach it to the main short’s pieces (1) &(2). Leave the seam allowances open.
- Finish with Cover Stitch: Wrap all binding/piping pieces (waistband and leg holes) around the fabric edges. Sew using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch, or any stretch stitch for a clean, finished look.
