What You Will Need
- 2/3 yard of 2 or 4 way stretch fabric 58”- 60” wide
- 1 pieces binding 1 3/8” wide by (binding sizes listed on sewing pattern)
- 2 pieces 24” long Minimum neck tie string 1 3/8” wide (I use pre-cut binding)
- 1 yard long minimum by 1 3/8” wide under bust string (I use pre-cut binding)
- Matching thread
- Home sewing machine
- Overlock machine / zig-zag stitch on a regular sewing machine
- Binding Foot is optional (I never used one) ignore my measurements if you use one
Pattern Assembly
- Pin the center of one binding strip (2) to the center of the top bust of (1) then pin the ends of (2) to the outside edge of the top (1) Overhang binding (2) ½” on both sides. (binding sizes listed on sewing pattern)
- Stay stitch binding (2) to upper bust (1) with the ½” overhang. I use a serger stitch for a stay stitch
- Wrap binding around top (1) fabric edge. Finish the stitch using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch, or any other stretch stitch.
- Snip off the unfinished ends of the binding on both sides of the top (cut 2 binding ends)
- For side neck tie strings (3) pin one 24” binding piece to each outside edge of top (1) Measure to both top tip and pin. Use pinning measurements listed on sewing pattern. Overhang lower binding (2) ½” on both sides. The next step – stay stitch (see video for instruction)
- Wrap binding (3) around both top sides of (1) fabric edge and continue the stitch to create both neck ties. Finish the stitch using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch, or any other stretch stitch. Snip unfinished lower ends of the binding on both sides of the top (cut 2 binding ends)
- Pin the center of your 1 yard minimum under bust string (4) to the center of the under bust of (1)
- Measure and pin (4) to both sides of under bust of top (1) Leaving the long ends to tie around the back. Use pinning measurements listed on sewing pattern.
- Wrap under bust string (4) around under bust of (1) fabric edge and continue the stitch to create the ties around the back. Finish the stitch using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch, or any other stretch stitch.
- Tie the ends of the strings on both sides. Two neck strings and two back stings. Larger sizes will require longer string to tie around the back.
