What You Will Need

  • ¼ yard 2 or 4 way stretch fabric (you can use scraps) match fabric grain/arrow
  • ¼ yard optional lining (you can use scraps) match fabric stretch with top and fabric grain
  • 4 pieces Binding/Bia String of 2 or 4 way stretch fabric (I prefer raschel 2 way stretch precut binding)
  • Matching Thread
  • Overlock machine / zig-zag stitch on a regular sewing machine
  • Binding Foot is optional (I never used one)

Pattern Assembly

  1. Stay stitch binding (2) to upper bust (1). Overhang binding ½” on both ends (binding sizes listed in this sewing pattern)
  2. Wrap binding around banana top (1) fabric edge. Finish the stitch using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch, or any other stretch stitch.
  3. Snip off the unfinished ends of the binding (2) on both sides of the banana top (cut 2 binding ends)
  4. Pin the center of binding string (3) to the center of the banana top (1) at bottom. Measure to the side tips of (1) and pin. Use these measurements from the inside pin to ends XS 4”, S 4.5”, M 5”, L 5.5”, XL 6” Then stay stitch (see video for instruction)
  5. Wrap bias string (3) at one end to create the back string and follow through banana top (1) fabric edge and finish at the other back string. Finish using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch or any other stretch stitch. Tie both string ends to secure
  6. Wrap both neck pieces (4) to create neck strings. Finish the stitch using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch or any other stretch stitch. Use a binding foot if you have one
  7. Sew both neck straps (4) to the banana top of (1) where it is marked on the sewing pattern using a straight stitch
