Pattern Assembly

  1. Serge together back seam of the shorts (2) with a serger stitch (you can use a straight stitch
  2. Place the front curved crotch edge of (1) in between the lining and crotch front (3) with right sides of (1) & (3) fabric facing each other. Sew the 3 layers together with a serger stitch. Lining should have the same stretch of the fabric (3) Make sure lining will be on the inside of shorts
  3. Open the stitch of step 2. and attach both pieces of (3) to back crotch or (2) using a serger stitch
  4. I usually sew the serger seam down in the back with a cover stitch or zigzag stitch. The T at the crotch (3) and back (2) is a stress point.
  5. Serger stitch or straight stitch both shorter sides of the two waistbands (4) together
  6. Fold the waistband (4) in half on the fold line with right side of the fabric facing out
  7. With right sides of fabric of (1) & (2) facing out. Pin the sewn sides of the folded waistband (4) to the outside of the shorts (1) & (2) at the sewn side seams
  8. Sew the waistband (4) to the shorts (1) & (2) using a stretch stitch. You are sewing 3 layers of fabric together (overlock machine is recommended)
  9. Open the seam so it lays flat. Sew the serger stitch down using a stretch stitch (this step is optional)
  10. Hem the leg holes with a 1/2” hem using a cover stitch, zigzag stitch, or any other stretch stitch. You will hem the crotch lining by tucking it inside the hem. I cut the visible excess lining from the hem
