What You Will Need
- 1/4 yard of 2 or 4 way stretch fabric 58”- 60” wide
- Optional lining with the same stretch
- ¼” wide braided elastic
- Matching Thread
- Overlock machine / zig-zag stitch on a regular sewing machine
- Elastic Foot is recommended
Pattern Assembly
- With wrong sides of fabric facing out, sew both small sides of front (1) and back (2) and optional lining with 1⁄4” overlock stitch or straight stich. If using a lining pin it to the fabric so it doesn’t move while sewing
- Using an elastic attachment sew 1⁄4’ elastic to both leg holes of (1) & (2) on the wrong side of the fabric. Leave the crotch piece ends of (1) & (2) unsewn. You will sew these ends together in the next step.
- Sew the crotch of (1) & (2) with a straight stitch. Reinforce both ends with a back stitch. Leave a 1⁄4” seam allowance.
- Use a cover stitch or zigzag stitch. Fold under the elastic of (1) & (2) on the inside of the thong. This will create a little over 1⁄4” hem. Fold open elastic on the inner thigh (crotch) before you hem it, to make the crotch less bulky.
- Sew both small sides of the waistband (3) with an overlock stitch or straight stitch. Fold the waistband in half the long way before attaching to the lower thong (1) & (2)
- With the lower thong (1) & (2) wrong side out. Pin the sides and center front and back of the waistband (3) evenly inside (1) & (2). The lower thong (1) & (2) will have gaps because the waistband is smaller
- Using an overlock machine (stretch stitch) sew the top (3) and bottom (1) & (2) of the thong together. The waistband is smaller, so pull on the fabric to match the pieces up. Pull the pins out before you get to the overlock knife
- Open the waistband and fold down the overlock stitch. Sew it down with a cover stitch or zigzag stitch. This step is optional, but makes a nice finished look on your garment
